Summer Dresses in Fall and Winter (Part 2)

I'm really having fun finding different ways to use my summer dresses this winter! It's not something I've done before and I'm not sure why. I feel like I have a brand new wardrobe just by adding a few warmer pieces to my summer dresses! I put my T-shirt dress over a chambray shirt, added tights, boots and my puffy black vest. I finished off the look with a skinny belt and the new watch I got for Christmas. So simple! I feel so polished and put together but at the same time I'm still able to play with the baby and feel comfortable which lets face it, being comfortable is key when you're busy! Another way to wear this style is to simply throw on a sweater over your favorite summer print dress! Don't forget the tights to keep warm.

Try adding a blazer over a dress or a belted cardigan. A leather jacket over a lacy dress is a little edgier and would be great for a date night. Mix these looks up with dark colored tights or thigh high socks. You don't have to just stick with knee high or ankle boots. The right flats will work too. There are just so many options I could probably make a "part 3" but I'll think this is good and gives you a few basic ideas.

Summer dresses in Fall and Winter (part 1)

On a warmish (and by warmish I obviously mean over 40* and not snowing) winter day I like to bring out some of my summer dresses and pair them with either tights or black leggings. Be sure to add a long cardigan, an infinity or blanket scarf to stay warm and to help transition your dress fully to the next season. Finish off the look with boots. Depending on the length of your dress or just your personal preference, thigh high, knee high or even ankle boots will work!

Colored Jeans

Colored jeans are a fun easy way to step out of the everyday usual blue jean go to. Browns, burnt oranges, burgundy, olive and other greens, grey along with white if your super daring, are perfect shades for Fall and winter. The safe way to wear the colored jean would be to add a solid shirt or blouse. Try something new though. There's no reason why you should feel limited to a solid shirt, blouse or sweater. Adding a stripped black and white shirt, a pattern or gingham is not only simple but bumps your outfit up that extra notch. Super cute and super easy! I only have a burnt orangey jean right now but am seriously contemplating buying not only burgundy but an olive colored pair as well! Another awesome selling point on the colored jean is that when the baby throws up on them you can just switch them out for your favorite blue jean without having to change your top. ;) #yesthathappened #thankskid

Business to Casual

If you're like me you have a whole section in your closet that is dedicated to dress/business clothes that has been pretty much deserted and left untouched for far to long. I was thinking to myself how can I possibly wear these pants but keep it casual and functional? Well, the first thing that comes to my mind is a t-shirt and sneakers. And you know what? It works! I got the idea from watching Ellen yesterday. Not my typical style icon but she makes this look work all the time!
So I pulled out my Editor pants from Express (had since maybe '06!) a long sleeve white tee, fun infinity scarf, my 17 yr old jean jacket and some trusty old white converse and there ya go! Guys, these pants are so comfy! I've been moving around and getting on the floor with the baby all day and I remember now why I loved these pants! Tried another yet similar look (see bottom picture) but with pinstriped pants. I added a black undershirt, a side tied graphic tee and a cozy long sleeve cardigan. This outfit was way more casual but the pants gave it that extra touch.

Layers Are A Must

When it's 25* outside layers are a must! My favorite go to for layering and still being stylish is a long patterned sleeveless tank! Add a solid colored sweater and your outfit instantly looks more pulled together and stylish. Basically no effort was put into this outfit except deciding to add the patterned tank instead of a cami. The difference is definitely noticeable though. A bold colored pea coat, skinny jeans and my old black knee high boots finishes the look.
Now there is nothing wrong with a plain cami. This morning I was in a rush and quickly grabbed the first thing I saw. White cami, cable knit sweater and khakis. Since its freezing out I added a large cozy scarf. It works, its cute, quick, functional and I don't look like I just rolled out of bed even though that's basically what happened!
Top layering pieces that everyone has or should have, cami or sleeveless tank, button down shirt, pullover sweater, cardigan, vests, coats, fitted jackets (jean, blazer or leather) and scarfs. A quick stop to Pinterest will show you that the combinations of these items and how to wear them are endless. Have fun with it and put the sweats and yoga pants back in the drawer!

Hello All!

I have always wanted to dress up. I usually go overboard and "over dress". When I 1st went to college I had dreams about being a famous designer or buying clothes for a major retail company. Well that didn't happen. I did however get to work as a retail manager for awhile so my knowledge of puffy sleeves and A-line skirts did come in handy. Life moved on and well, a new boyfriend (my future hubby) and a move across the country I found myself being a sahm (Stay at home mom) mom to my daughter, Asia who was then 7(now 18). It sucked. I was miserable. I was not cut out for the stay at home life quite yet. I found that I loved volunteering at my daughters school so I started looking for jobs working with children and ended up becoming a preschool teacher and going back to college. This time for Early Childhood Education.
10 yrs later along with over 5 years of infertility (we started trying to conceive after our marriage Jan '08), countless procedures, medications, and doctors appointments, four IUIs, and an IVF we finally had our youngest daughter, Lily in Jan 2014 I found myself to be a sahm mom again...sort of. I worked at home for 2 wonderful yrs as a home daycare provider. During that time we did two frozen embryo transfers that failed. Got ready for another fresh IVF that ended up getting canceled due to OHSS (Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome) Even with all the eggs I had they were only able to get out eleven. From those eleven only four fertilized and from those four only one made it to day 3 to freeze. That one precious little embryo is now my 6 month old son, Grayson. Now I no longer have the daycare and am truly a sahm. I love it!
Anyways needless to say these last 3 yrs have been super busy and I found myself wearing, sweats, yoga pants and sometimes my pajamas almost everyday. And make up...forget about it! I was in a shlump. I had been someone that didn't wear the same outfit twice in a month and always did my hair and make up to someone who looked like they should crawl back in bed. My reason to get dress was going to the grocery store. I have a giant closet full of clothes, accessories and beautiful shoes that never got worn. Why? Because they might get dirty. Who was going to see me anyway? What if they get ruined, I'd have nothing to wear if and when I went back to work. My husband said something to me one day and it was like a light switch went off. "By the time you go back you'll probably want all new stuff anyways because 'all your clothes will be out of style' " So the next day after the kids were changed and settled I went back upstairs and took 20 min and got my ass dressed and put on some make up. Instantly I felt better. More organized. More put together. Just ready to take on the day.
I'm a Pinterest junkie and find myself running to Pinterest for outfit ideas when I'm starring at the closet with no idea what to wear. There is always something to wear. I hope to be able to share with you ideas and easy, realistic ways to stay fashionable. Comfortably because being a sahm with toddlers and babies is a messy, sticky, get down on the floor to play and eewwl what did I just step in, kind of job. Did I mention we also have a cat, a dog, 4 ducks and 21 chickens? Yeah...outfits need to be easy and realistic.
Here was today's outfit. Long sleeve purple t-shirt topped with a cozy cream cardigan. Classic boot cut jeans accessorized with a brown leather belt and brown suede ankle boots.  Going forward intros will be shorter and more about the styles, fashion, my diy or project of the day!
