Day 3 Printed Skirt!

Happy Friday everyone! Today's theme was to wear a printed skirt. I have three printed skirts and only wear them on holidays so I was looking forward to switching things up a bit. I bought this Lularoe skirt last October because the print was absolutely to die for! Gorgeous, bright colors that I knew could be worn throughout the year! This is my only Lularoe purchase so far but I think I may get some more skirts eventually.
I usually wear this skirt paired with a cream colored lace top and either nude heels or my suede red flats. Since I'll be just around the house with the kids and running errands today I had to bring out my trusty Converse! A plain black tank and denim jacket kept the look simple and from being to busy.  When it gets a bit warmer I'll probably add some flip flops and maybe a tied white t-shirt!

Day 2. No Jeans, Pants Day

Day 2 of my 30 Day Fashion Challenge. It's a cool 56* here today so I'm glad I had pants planned for the day. Jeans are always a go to item but like I said yesterday, I wanted to step out of the box a bit and put some of my unused clothes to use. I bought these linen pants a few yrs ago at Marshall'sc and have probably only worn them three or four times. They are comfy and casual so I'm not sure why I don't wear them more often. They do need to be ironed everytime I wear them so that most likely has something to do with it. I decided to keep my shirt simple and went with a black t-shirt and simple black Crocs.

Black Crocs can be found Here. Now I have to be honest. I have never been a Crocs wearing type of girl. I only bought these to wear kayaking down in Florida. However, I have been wearing these a lot lately. The Kadee, is a ballerina inspired flat and I'm a big fan of those so this was an obvious choice for me today.

You can find linen pants at Kohl's  on sale or you can also find a few different styles right now at Gap. I'm really liking the navy pants!

30 day Fashion Challenge

I've noticed recently since being home from our vacation, that I've started to fall back into old habits fashion wise. The sweat pants and leggings have come out again and changing into pj's as soon as possible. With the weather getting warmer finally, I've decided that I need to challenge myself and get out of this new funk. I've seen challenges pop up on Instagram lately and decided to "shop" in my own closet and put together some looks that I might not go to. I took a couple of minutes and jotted down 30 different ideas from "Casual Prep", "Boho", "Printed Skirt" to "Vintage Day" just to name a few. A different theme everyday for the next 30 days. This should help me think outside the box, wear some clothes that haven't been used in awhile and help me from repeating outfits. Also I will try and put my forgotten accessories to use.

To start off my 30 Day Fashion Challenge I went with Casual Chambray. Fun, Classy and Relaxed. Also, yes I am standing in a hospital room. Everything is fine. Just waiting for hubby.

Old Navy currently has a classic Chambray shirt on sale for $17!

White jeans are from Express. Im sure you can find some for less but I absolutely think these are worth the money. The stretch and fit is fantastic!

Also at Old Navy they currently have many brown leather belts on sale! Was going to post one but when there are so many to choose from for all under $9, I just had to share the link for all of them! If you don't already have one or are in need of a new one, be sure to check HERE!

When Being Bored Goes Horribly Wrong

There are times I get bored and get sucked into Pinterest. Most of the time I'll just pin away and find cool stuff to make and so on. However there are times that being bored and Pinterest are just a recipe for disaster. Last week was one of those times. I'm not going to even explain what happened. The screen shots between my friend and I do that on their own.....

Thanks for fixing my bangs, Lindsay!

Baked Brussel Sprouts and Chickpeas

So tonight after the kids went down I decided to make myself a little snack. I wanted something healthy but with a little kick to it. My options were extremely limited though since I failed to go to the grocery store today. So after scavenging I came up with this little recipe.

Ingredients

*1 15oz can of chick peas, strained
*About 15 fresh Brussel sprouts-cut ends off and cut into 4ths (you could probably use more or less. Remember I was scavenging 😜)
*Olive oil
*Pink Himalayan Sea Salt
*Red Pepper Flakes
*Minced Garlic

Instructions

Preheat oven to 400*
Cover a cookie sheet in aluminum foil
Add cut Brussel sprouts and chickpeas
Drizzle olive oil lightly over
Season with mince garlic, salt and red pepper flakes.

Bake for 15-20 min.

Enjoy!! I loved this and barely have any left over!

"Rocking Motherhood Challenge"

So today's post is a bit different. I'm very honored and excited to have been tagged by my friend Kate, at One Pea In The Pod to participate in the “Rocking Motherhood Challenge” that was originally started by White Camellias. Let me tell you, this was not an easy task to write about! It took me little over a week to jot things down. To sit and think "yes, I am rocking this!" doesn't happen as much as it should. Being a mommy isn't easy and unfortunately it IS easy to get down on ourselves. This challenge has made me want to look at each day differently.  I don't want to go to bed and worry about the little things that didn't get done on my "To Do" list. I want to go to bed and realize that I made a positive impact on my children's lives.

10 ways I'm Rocking Motherhood

1. Projects. I'm big into DIY, crafts and painting. When I do projects for myself I try and always have a mini project set up for the kids. They love it! Lily just loves to create and Grayson, well I can already tell that he will as well.

2. I try to always make my family healthy balanced meals. This is not something I had growing up and it is so important to me that the kids eat healthy meals. Doesn't always happen but I do a pretty rockin' job. I take full advantage of Pinterest and the gazillion recipes on there. We have something new a couple of times a month. For example every time I make chicken, I will find a new way to make, marinade or season it. Tonight I made my go to chicken breast strips but made a garlic brown sugar sauce to bake it in. So good!

3. Baking. I let the kids join me in baking. I try to always set everything up in little bowls ahead of time so Lily is not waiting around for me to measure out ingredients. The joy Lily gets from helping make something is truly awesome.
Lily was probably almost 2 in this picture

4. Discipline and routines. Though not perfect and always adjusting when needed, I try to stick to what we have found works. Routine, is key but so is listening to body language and not just focusing on the actions or words. Taking the time to listen and emphasize with what my children are saying and feeling, is so important.

5. Being there even when I can't actually be there. Driving home from our vacation, I was 5hrs away when Asia called me to say she had been in a car accident. Her and her boyfriend were rear ended but luckily were okay. Asia was very shaken up and in tears. After making sure that she was physically okay I did what I could to try and calm her down and reassure her that it's normal to be a "mess" after something traumatic. That it was okay to cry.

6. I used car driving time to talk to Asia. About her friends, life, plans. We talked about everything in the car. Sometimes I think it's easier for discussions to be in the car since you're both sitting and not facing each other. Keeping communication open and as non judgmental as possible has really helped our bond and has let her know that even though I am her parent, she can still be open with me. I hope that I will be able to have this trust and bond with both of my younger children.
Me on the left, Asia on the right (don't worry, we were parked here)

7. When Asia was in her early teens she wore heavy eyeliner and ridiculous shirts. Recently she asked me why I let her dress that way. I told her I choose my battles and felt that the makeup and shirts (not low cut just black and "darkish") were a phase. It wasn't extreme or harmful or something that she couldn't later change. When she wanted to get her belly button pierced at 14, 15 and 17, I said "no" and made her wait till she was 18. Same with the nose piercing she wanted and now has chosen not to get. I picked my battles but let her find herself at the same time.

8.  Being a teacher. Being a teacher has not only helped me understand, teach, guide and create fun learning experiences for my kids but has inspired Asia to actually pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education as well. Fyi- I totally asked for her help here because I ran out of things! She also likes that I can help her with lesson plans!

9. There are times that I feel like a single mom. When Paul is home he is constantly helping out with dishes, the laundry and with the kids. I'm very lucky. However he goes through weeks of working non stop doubles. I might see him for 15-20 minutes before he goes to bed before another shift. He works so hard for our family. It's not easy. It's stressful and exhausting for both of us. I was a single parent when Asia was younger so please don't take offense if you truly are a single parent. Just saying that there are times that I truly feel alone. I just want a break or someone to help me with dinner or tubby time. Sometimes I just want to sit and talk to not just another adult but to my partner and other half. Sometimes I just want to go to the bathroom by myself! However as you know that's not always an option. I don't always "rock" this part of mommy hood but I try. I try to tell myself that I did a good job with dinner, reading stories or putting together the same puzzle for the millionth time, running to different appointments and errands on my own with a screaming toddler and baby. Some days are better than others. Which leads me to #10 below.....

10. Taking care of myself so I can take care of my family. After Grayson was born I had to finally come to terms with the fact that I needed to see my doctor. Something was "wrong" and I needed help. I was diagnosed with postpartum related depression and anxiety. I didn't make the connection at first because for the most part I was genuinely happy throughout the day but then would randomly become a mess. Something ridiculous and small would set me off and I would become "ragey". I was okay one second and then snap the next. I would break down over the fact that it was raining and so many different horrible scenarios would go through my head on why I couldn't leave the house. I believed that I was a horrible mom and going crazy. "Something isn't right, somethings wrong" would go through my head all day. I didn't know that these feelings and reactions could be postpartum related, since nothing was towards the baby, till I talked to my friends on my online infertility support group. Heck, I didn't even know there was such a thing as postpartum anxiety! Once I sought help from my doctor not only did it feel like a weight was lifted but I felt like me again. I even saw a huge difference in my 3yr olds behavior once I was able to take care of myself. Another thing is, I try to keep myself busy but also try to find "me" time. I love that I'm doing this blog for example. It's not the best, let's face it I'd win the "rookie blogger of the year award", but it makes me happy and let's me be a little more than "just a mom or wife" for a bit.

New Playroom!

Well, things are finally starting to settle down since being back from our vacation. We've been back now for almost two weeks and it's been nuts over here. Hubby and the kids have been in and out of the hospital and doctor's offices so much. Knee injury for the hubs and double ear infections for both little ones. The pharmacy offered me a job, I was in there so much! 😂 There has been so much I've wanted to write about but just never found the time. Poor hubs couldn't even walk for close to a week! I have no idea how other moms find the time to get posts done. I'd love some tips if anyone has any. This is something I definitely love doing and feel sad when I get nothing done on here.

The last few days I've been working on changing my son's room into the playroom. The toys in the living room and in my daughter's room just became too overwhelming and something needed to be done. My oldest helped me move Lily's roommate, aka Grayson, into her room along with all of his belongings. This is a temporary situation till Asia moves out and we can play musical rooms again.

Grayson's old room, though the smallest, is perfect for their new playroom. The built in shelves are perfect for books, puzzles, games and all our art supplies! Side note: the built in shelves were also perfect for books when the room was our office/library! 🙄

Anywho...The walls of the room are a tad dark for such a small space. Instead of changing the color of the whole room, I decided to break up the "darkness" by adding a new art gallery to display the kids art. I waited till the kids went to sleep and measured out the space I wanted and used a level to make sure and double check that my sides were taped off correctly. Two coats of primer and a night to dry later, I was ready to paint! I'm actually pretty happy with the results!
(Measured, taped and 2 coats of primer)

Once my paint was completely dry I pulled off the tape, slowly! I then measured out some twine and decided where I wanted the art to hang. I brought out some construction paper to help me get an idea of the size of art work that my children may do, to get an idea of where the twine should hang. Once I decided, I nailed in some finishing nails about halfway into the wall and then knotted the twine to the nail. Once my knot was nice and tight, I hammered in the nail the rest of the way.

As you can see from the picture below, I pulled the twine straight across and somewhat tight. I didn't want it loose and hanging. This is because the weight of the pictures will pull it down a bit.

I decided to add a little saying to the top to spruce it up a bit. It just seemed incomplete without adding something to the top of the large white rectangle! I went to Pinterest to gather some ideas and felt that this was the best. A close second was "Look, what I made". I think this works though. Oh and do you like the banner? Shiny scrapbook paper and twine! Total cost of banner $1.75!!
Even with the toys having their own room, we still have way too much stuff! I still have a basement full of items. I definitely need to go through everything and get organized for a yard sale!
